COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CLOCK, WALL
ELECTRIC, SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification GG-C-466.
Salient characteristics:
Size and class. The size and class of dial shall be specified in the procurement documents.
Size I dials shall be 8-inches in diameter + 1.0 inch.
Size II dials shall be 12-inches in diameter + 1.0 inch.
Class A dials shall be 12-hour dials, one revolution of the hour hand taking 12 hours.
Class B dials shall be 24-hour dials, one revolution of the hour hand taking 24 hours.
General. The motor shall be synchronous self-starting for use on 120 V.a.c., 60 Hz.
The power cord, complete with molded plug, shall be at least one foot long, measured from the rear of the motor casing.
The movement shall be capable of synchronous operation between 10oF and 125oF.
The dial cover shall be clear, non-yellowing, shatterproof and scratch-resistant.
Safety. The complete wall clock unit being offered shall conform to the applicable requirements of Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standard No. 863. If a two conductor is used, the clocks shall conform, additionally, to UL Standard No. 1097, and appropriately marked.
Acceptable evidence of such conformance shall be the UL label, UL listing mark, or certified report from a recognized independent testing laboratory acceptable to the Government, indicating that the clocks being offered have been tested and conform to UL 863, and UL 1097, if applicable.
If any UL requirement or section of a requirement is not applicable to the clocks, the independent testing laboratory shall so state in their report, giving a brief adequate explanation in each case.
Evidence of conformance shall accompany the bid.
The issue of UL standards in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Case. Cases shall be surface type with a concealed mounting that will not interfere with plugging in the clock over a surface outlet.
Cord openings shall be smoothly rounded.
Hands. Minute and hour hands shall be clock, second hand shall be a distinguishing color.
The minute hand shall be at least 3-1/2 inches long, measured from the center of the dial.
The hour hand shall be 45 to 85 percent as long as the minute hand.
The second hand shall be at least 3 inches long.
Dial. Dials shall be white with black Arabic numerals and minute marks.
All numerals for each hour shall appear on the dial, being at least 11/16-inch high.
Resetting. The clocks shall have a simple means of resetting which does not require removing the clock from the wall, removing the dial cover, or using more than one hand.
Accuracy. The clocks shall be accurate to + 1.0 second per 72 hours.
Workmanship. The complete wall clock shall be of sufficient quality to ensure trouble-free operation for at least the first five years. The clocks shall operate without objectionable noise or hum, and shall not develop such from normal usage. All components shall be compatible, properly fitted and securely attached. The clocks shall be free from sharp or rough edges, or other defects which may injure the user, impair the smooth operation of the clock, or impair serviceability.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
