COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TIMER, INTERVAL, ELECTRIC
(DIGITAL)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
Salient characteristics.
Material. The materials used shall be of sufficient strength and durability to ensure that the timers are securely and sturdily constructed and will remain usable over the normal life of a timer.
Any metals used shall be corrosion resistant or treated to resist corrosion of any type, consistent with their normal functioning.
Dimensions. The overall dimensions of the timer shall be no more than 4-inches high, 6-inches wide and 4 inches deep.
Mounting. The base shall be stable, with no rocking or wobbling, when placed on a flat, level surface. The base shall have at least two mounting holes. The timer shall have a suspension device securely attached to the case and capable of supporting the entire weight of the timer.
Time display. The timer shall be easily set to any desired interval to a maximum of at least 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds.
The display shall be constantly visible, indicating the time remaining in an interval using minutes, seconds, and 1/100 th seconds.
The timer shall be accurate to + 0.1 seconds per hour, with no need for adjustment.
The time display shall be either liquid crystal display (LCD) or light emitting diode (LED) type, at the manufacturer’s option.
Power. The timers shall draw power from a standard 110 to 120 volt, 60 Hz, alternating current outlet. The power cord, complete with plug shall be at least 5-feet long.
Safety. The completed timers shall conform to the applicable requirements of Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standard No. 863. Acceptable certification of this conformance shall be the UL label, UL listing mark, or certified report from a recognized independent testing laboratory acceptable to the Government, indicating that the timers offered have been tested and conform to UL 863.
The issues of UL 863 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements.
Readability. The display shall be readable from a distance of 5-feet in normal office light and 3-feet in total darkness or the light from a safelight.
Starting Device. The starting device shall be conveniently located on the outside of the timer case. It shall activate the timer when placed in the “start” position and automatically return to its original position by the end of an interval.
Alarm. An alarm shall sound at the end of an interval for no more than 5 seconds. It shall be audible from a distance of 50 feet.
Workmanship. The workmanship shall ensure that the timer is of “professional” quality. The timer shall be free from sharp or rough edges, or any defects which may injure the user or impair serviceability.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
